You have your own business or work in human resources at a business.
Often, the best solution is to hire a recruiter on contingency to find you good employees. You only pay them if they find, and you hire, the person.
Most often you will end up paying anywhere from 20% - 30% of the person’s 1st year annual salary, as the fee. So for example, if the person is to earn $50,000 per year, your fee to the recruiter will be $10,000 - $15,000 for finding you the person.
ExclusiveJobs.com is a new online recruiter. They will find, screen, and interview the person. They will supply you with these people and will only charge a 6% fee (if you hire the person.) That’s only a $3,000 fe instead of up to a $15,000 fee.
ExclusiveJobs.com works on a contingency basis. You only pay if you hire the person. You should check them out at ExclusiveJobs.com

Remember the old movie “Working Girl”? Harrison Ford and Melanie Griffith crash a wedding to meet the “right guy” … You need to meet the “right guy” to get into an organization.
True story. I wanted to get into a major NY bank. I searched out a senior decision maker in the area. For me it was the online area. He was an SVP.
I searched him out and found him to be active in the UJA. Attended a UJA banquet in midtown Manhattan. (I forked over the $125 for the dinner.) During the course of the evening, I made a point of introducing myself and participating in conversation with him. The conversation involved a group of approximately 5 or 6 people.
The next Monday, I contacted him and referenced the banquet. I sent him a cover letter and a copy of my resume.
Within 3 days I received a call from the company’s Human Resources Department. Over the next few weeks, I went in for a series of interviews and received an offer. (I happened to turn down the position.)
The point here being the entry-point of your resume is critical.
My resume was received by an SVP who simply forwarded it to HR. He barely knew me and was certainly not going to vouch for me…. But since the resume had come from “upstairs” you could be sure that they were going to take a close look at it. If the resume has simply come in with the pile of resumes from Monster or CareerBuilder, I doubt it would have been noticed.
Almost everyone has a FaceBook, MySpace, or other social networking account. It’s fun. Easy communications. Why not?
At times the pictures, comments and videos may be fun, but do not depict you properly in terms of getting an internship or job.
Here’s are suggestions using FaceBook:
For your “real” FaceBook account, spell your name slightly differently. Communicate this to your friends, and believe me, you will still be able to network. Have fun with this account. Set it to private. The intent is to (a) have fun while (b) making it difficult for someone not on your extended network to find you.
Have a second “public facing” FaceBook account. Let’s call it your “FaceBook Resume”. Set it up as if you are using it to convince and employer, or other professional organization, to bring you on board. Think about it. Join some professional groups…. Put on a show that you can speak-to when the employer finds the account. Be creative. You want the employer to find this account. It is to your benefit. And they are looking online to check you out! Also, once they find this account, they won’t continue looking for your “real”, fun account.
Also, in videos, do not tag yourself with your full name (prevents search… at least for today.)
Getting experience while in school makes it a whole lot easier getting a job after graduation. Let me re-phrase … At times, it may be almost impossible to get a job after graduation if you do not have an internship or related experience.
A good source of internships is InternZoo, as well as the job behemoths MonsterTrak.com and CareerBuilder. These sites will allow you to easily search and apply for internships throughout the U.S. I definitely recommend checking out these sites.
A new organization which is launching in late November / early December is ExclusiveInternships.com. This is an organization that will be providing internship assistance, screening for students and will “hand deliver” (not literally) the appropriate candidates to the hiring companies. If you are interested in pre-registering for the Free service, visit ExclusiveInternships.com.
The business world is tougher than ever. Downsizing, mergers, and acquisitions occur everyday along with associated job losses.
The days of the “working at the same job for 20 years” is over… or is it?
There are jobs that are relatively secure, although that are typically not the top paying careers. Examples include * teachers * law enforcement * firemen.
Let’s take a look at the teaching profession. Teachers are not typically the highest paid individuals in a neighborhood, but there are benefits and opportunities.
Teacher have “reasonable” work hours. It is common for a teacher to be home by 5:00 PM on a weeknight. How many other professions allow the person to be home at that hour?
Teachers have many vacations including long summer vacations. This enables the teacher to be with his / her family and have a work-balanced life.
Teachers get tenure! Depending upon the situation, unless a teacher “totally messes up”, once they have tenure, that job is theirs forever! Pretty nice security… Not many other professions offer this security.
What now typically arises is the argument “teachers don’t make enough money”. And, depending upon the part of the country, this is partially true.
Getting accepted into a good college is getting more and more competitive. SATs, ACTs, and other standardized tests are gaining increased importance in the acceptance process. As a result of this, depending, parents are paying for tutors to assist their children studying for these exams.
Who does the tutoring? Local teachers. How much do they charge? $50, $75, $100 per hour and more! I did a quick, informal, unscientific survey of 10 high school juniors. I asked them if they had a tutor for the SATs. EVERY student, all 10 of them, had at least one tutor for the SATs! Many had 2 tutors; one for math and one for verbal. (Note: These were students in NY.)
Teachers have the opportunity of making as much after school, as they do in school.
Think about it. A secure job in which you can make significant money after hours… Consider it!
The subject of video resumes seems to come up more and more often.
Bottom line. When someone watches your video resume… You cannot rebut objections. You cannot read body language. You cannot rebut preconceived notions based solely upon your appearance.
In most cases, do NOT create create a video resume. In general; it’s a bad move. Please take a look at this video.
Some people will immediately have an opinion of this individual based upon his look, accent, or body language. He may be a great candidate for a position and he will not get the interview.
Of course if you are looking for a on-screen media opportunity, sales, or other appearance-related job, use your judgement, be careful, and consider creating one. Be careful.
When choosing a job or internship, you need to take a step back and look in the mirror.
Are you an outgoing person? Shy?Do you prefer working in teams or alone?
Do you enjoy standing in front of people and teaching? No? You probably should pass on the Corporate Trainer opportunity…
It will save you time and energy if you take a personal inventory right up front because many companies will “screen you” before they actually hire you.
More and more companies are having individuals go through the interview process and then have them taking psychological exams such as Myers-Briggs Typological Process.
Myers-Briggs is an exam that provides a personality profile. Typically given by a psychologist, many corporations use the results in hiring decisions.
You may want to take a look at http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp take a test and see the results. Again, this is a quick online test but it may give you some insight as to (a) who you are, and (b) what to expect when taking such as exam.
There are 100’s of people applying for these positions. You need a way to get to the “top of the pile” of resumes.Applying on the major sites (you know who they are) will give you minimal odds of being noticed…
Be creative. You need a strategy.Get to the right person but DON’T GO DIRECTLY TO HR (Human Resources).
Here is exactly, step-by-step, what I did to get a job at a high tech company on Long Island (NY).
Found the name of the CEO.
Researched where he had previously worked and people he knew.
Found a person we had in common.
Developed an outline of what I wanted to discuss.
Called his office one morning at 8:30 AM.
His admin (the gatekeeper) answered the phone, inquired to my intentions, and transferred me to HR.
I HUNG UP BEFORE HR PICKED UP.
Hmmm. I thought that most CEOs and Senior Management typically arrive early and leave late…
I called the next morning at 7:30 AM.The CEO picked up. I avoided the gatekeeper! I quickly introduced myself, and logically hooked in the common people we knew.
Spent 30 minutes on the phone with him and was brought in for an interview the next week.
I received the offer.
True story…. Go For It!
