If Jose Reyes was on The Yankees…

If Jose Reyes was on The Yankees, he would be the Yankee Centerfielder.

The current Yankee infield is Mark Teixeira (1B), Robinson Cano (2B), Derek Jeter (SS), and Alex Rodriguez (3B).  He is not displacing Jeter from SS.  And there is no way he would displace Cano, Rodriguez,  or Teixeira.

I suppose some Mets fans would argue he’s better than Jeter but he’s never consistently shown it.  Interesting.

NY Yankees George Steinbrenner Early Eulogy And Thank You

This is not meant to be morbid. Unfortunately, people give thanks to family, friends, and other people after they have passed away.

Not knowing how ill, or how much time he has left, here is a message to The Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.

George -

Thank you for purchasing The Yankees.  We do not know you personally, but , we Yankee Fans, appreciate everything you have done for us.

You took an average team in the 1970′s and brought it back to greatness.  You put your heart and money into the organization.  You brought us Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson, Joe Torre, and other elite, big name stars.  Of course there were free agent flops along the way but we appreciate that you were always willing to spend the money and “go for it”.

There is not much more a sports fan can ask of an owner.

Thank you George!

Everytime I watch the Yankees they lose (sports and superstitions)

I just put on the NY Yankees game against the Kansas City Royals. It was the 5th inning and the score was tied at 0-0. Within 5 minutes of my putting the game on, KC scored. I immediately thought to change the channel because I was bringing bad luck. Rasner (NYY) had been pitching well up until that point, so I changed from the YES Network to TNT where Cast Away (Tom Hanks) was on.

Sounds crazy? Irrational? In one way or another, most sports fans do it!

Does this sound familiar, or similar, to you, or your favorite sports fan?

When we were in SUNY Albany, during football season, we watched the Jets every Sunday. Without fail, if they started to play well, no one was allowed to move, switch seats, go get a beer (yes, believe it) or go to the bathroom. Did it work? Sometimes. But it definitely would not have worked if we didn’t follow the ritual.

Duirng one Yankees season, I always sat on the floor at the foot of of my bed. Every game. The Yankees finished in 1st place and won the World Series. (I also wore out the carpet in the bedroom and had to pay to replace it.)

During Jets season, the Wayne Chrebet Bobble Head had to be on the mantle during the Jets game. (Obviously this only works so well in that the Jets haven’t won the Super Bowl since 1969.)

Another good one was, at school, we always drank Coors Light during football games.

There are more seemly sill superstitions or patterns, but that’s enough for now.

If you are a real sports fan, I am sure you have plenty of your own.

BTW – I still have Cast Away on the TV and the Yankees lost 2-1… They would have probably lost 5-1 if I watched the game…

Does everyone agree that Bucky Dent, or as the it is said in Massachussetts, Bucky “F-in” Dent, is the most hated Yankee of all time in Boston? Is Derek Jeter a close second? I have seen a lot of good Jeter t-shirts on the side streets near Fenway…

ARod is back – Notice a difference in the Yankees?

ARod is back. Do you notice a difference in the Yankees? Now they are winning 6-5, 8-6 and the higher scores? He makes the entire lineup better. The Yankees simply need the starting pitchers to pitch OK. Keep Joba and Mariano healthy. And they’ll be OK….. Watch!!!

NY Yankees lose to Gold National Majors, Commack North Little League

<Here is a story that iw being written to blow off steam because the Yankees stink. The names of my friends have been abbreviated because I do not have their permission.>

We had a great Little League team. Gold National Majors. Commack North Little League. Long Island. New York.

We went 14 – 0 in the regular season and won the league championship. It was a great group of guys who were close and did whatever it took to win. (Also, what happened in Gold National, stayed on Gold National. No one ever let it out if someone was wearing a gold thong ;>))

Position for position, and player for player, we were solid. So solid in fact that we would have beaten the 2008 Yankees if we had stayed together. Here is the player vs player comparison.

For pitching,I would put Bill Hou up against Andy Pettite. The edge would be to Bill Hou who was our Randy Johnson of the time. We would then have Brian Sha. play 1B.

Note: I still don’t feel better about the Yankees… just disgusted with their performance. It was kind of nice to think of those old little league days.

OK. Athletes are superstitious. Creatures of habit. It happens. We all saw the movie Major Leagues.

Do you know what’s on your way? Can you imagine the taunting you, and your teammates are going to receiving at Shea and Fenway? What were you thinking? Or did the steriods go to your mind?

And it’s one thing to admit your wearing a gold lamé, tiger-stripe thong under your uniform, but you “out’d” your teammates Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Robin Ventura, and Robinson Cano.

Notes to Giambi’s teammates, do not share any information with Giambi that you don’t want in the press:

• Don’t tell him if you are dating more than one woman.(Derek)
• Don’t tell him if you are considering asking to be traded
• Don’t tell him if you tried a performance enhancing drug
• Don’t tell him if you don’t like Joe Girardi or Hank Steinbrenner
• Don’t tell him if you missed curfew
• Don’t tell him anything….

No code. No honor.

This potentially extremely long season just got longer for you and your teammates.
