USA Olympic Basketball – Selling Out to the NBA

Posted by TopOfTheThread on June 30, 2008

The USA Olympic Basketball Team, or should I say, the NBA Olympic Basketball Team, consists of Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer , Chris Bosh , Kobe Bryant , Dwight Howard, LeBron us olympic basketball team professionals from NBAJames , Jason Kidd , Chris Paul , Tayshaun Prince , Michael Redd , Dwyane Wade , Deron Williams.

Talent-wise, this is by far the best basketball team on the planet.

The NBA will now have increased visibility overseas. The NBA will start playing games in Europe, Asia, and the Far East.

If the US Team wins, as expected, it proves absolutely nothing. They should win. There is no upside.

And for those of you who say it brings us national pride, please stop… A group of wealthy professional athletes winning a Gold Medal does nothing for us. If we sent college and high school kids such as OJ Mayo, Derrick Rose, and Michael Beasley… and they medal’d… now that would be a story…

This is really about the NBA and not national pride. The NBA benefits the most out of the arrangment…

Perhaps the NBA should be paying advertising fees to the United States Olympic Committee…. the way a company buys TV time to run an infomercial.

I think we should go back to allowing college kids play in the olympics instead of the NBA superstars. Because all of the athletes in the olympics aren’t millionaries like the NBA superstars are. And thats the real difference. The olympics is suppose to be about pride to say that we are the best country in the world. The athletes train their whole lives to win a gold metal for the US. While these NBA superstars no longer care about pride but they care about the NBA season because it brings home the big paycheck. The US team is a disgrace to the US. I also think Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Shaq, Steve Nash, Jermaine O’neal, Vince Carter, all should be playing in the olympics. I know there old and injured but that didn’t stop Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson from playing. Especially with the amount there being paid they should be forced to play like in China. After all its just basketball put the ball in the hoop and its only for a couple of hours.

  2. Wow! We won the Olympic Gold in basketball. I know I am in the minority but here’s a big SO WHAT. It proves absolutely nothing. I stand by my comments.

Well isn’t the olympics all about national pride?

  4. I am proud of my country. I just feel sending these NBA stars to the Olympics is like shooting a mouse with an elephant gun. As is, they barely beat Spain in the finals. Yes, in this case, winning 118-107 is barely winning. With the team they have, every game should be won by at least 20 points…
