Team Obama or Team McCain – Who should we vote for?

Posted by TopOfTheThread on September 16, 2008

Come November most of us will either be voting for the Democrats’ candidates (Obama/Biden) or the Republicans’ candidates (McCain/Palin)?white house obama mccain cabinet

We listen to Obama, McCain, Biden, and Palin speak, and preach their policies, beliefs, and philosophies. We also take into consideration the policies of their associated political parties.

So we elect a president…. And THEN the President-Elect names his cabinet.

The people of the United States deserve better. Tell us the members of your cabinet now. Let us truly elect the team (administration) we want leading the country.

Date: 9.16.08

To: Senator Obama. Senator McCain.

Re: Naming your cabinet

Please name your cabinets now. Tell us who will be your team so we can better judge who to vote for… You must know who will be filling these positions in your administration.

Here are the positions we need. We do realize some of the positions will change after the election, but please do the best you can. We already know your Vice President, so please name your heads of the executive departments-the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, and the Attorney General. If you can, also please name your heads of the Environmental Protection Agency; Director, Office of Management and Budget; the Director, National Drug Control Policy; and the U.S. Trade Representative.

Thank you.

Charisma is not leadership. Hitler had charisma, Lenin had charisma, Charles Manson had Charisma. So did Ronald Regan and John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Leadership requires courage and the resolve to stand for your beliefs. Most of us believe that this is a special nation, unique in many respects, flawed but still the best there is. Where else do the people have access to courts that can and do force the government to redress grievances? Where else do courts protect the rights of the individual when the government claims that national security is at stake? We can disagree on the matter of judicial activism but please remember that this is one of the few places where we can disagree in public with the government and not pay a price. England, for instance has some pretty severe laws regarding disclosure of government documents. Germany has a law that prohibits a couple from using certain names for their children. In France your church must be registered and approved by the government before you can worship. So vote for leadership and the candidate that will uphold our American traditions of self reliance, freedom to avail ourselves of opportunity and prevent government intrusion into our lives.

  2. pjryan49 – I am not sure but you may have meant to reply to the post “Sarah Palin – Why people like her”. I believe we are all on the same page. Charisma is not the main quality we need in our new leaders.

It would be nice to have the cabinets though… Based upon the current state of the country, it would be horrible to see many of the current cabinet members in the new cabinet.

Correct, my bonehead. While it might be nice to see cabinet appointments before the election, the current level of partisan animosity in Congress makes any revelation impractical. Senate leadership cannot agree to anything. Giving them months to badmouth and feud over potential cabinet members would only tighten the gridlock. Though I confess, it may be that we are better off with a do nothing Congress, at least they can’t screw things up too much.

    Thanks for the polite reminder.
